Protect Your Pharmacy Week

April 14 - April 18 has been declared Protect Your Pharmacy Week. Unfortunately crimes designed to obtain controlled drugs from pharmacies are on the rise. And adding to that pressure most community pharmacies are also part of a general or drug store, so they have the usual shoplifters and cash thieves that these generate.

The aim of the week is to raise awareness with staff and customers about these crimes, and to encourage pharmacists to take steps to prevent them. The National Community Pharmacists Association has joined forces with the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association and Purdue Pharma. Their aim is to improve the security and safety of pharmacies. NCPA members are getting a free toolkit to help them with this aim.

So what can you do to protect your pharmacy?

Firstly sign up and become a member of the NCPA you will then get your toolkit, which includes a training DVD, checklists and discounts on a range of security products.

Become a user of the Rx patrol website rxpatrol. This website is part of a union between law enforcement and the pharmacy industry to use pharmacy theft information to To Read More Click Here

Are You Getting Frequent Hiccups? Acid Reflux May Be Why

If you are experiencing hiccups, acid reflux could be a contributory factor and you may need to find a remedy to find relief from this non-serious, yet distressing symptom.

Hiccups, also called hiccoughs, result when the diaphragm suddenly contracts. The diaphragm is the thin muscle located under the heart and lungs that separates the chest from the abdomen and assists with inhaling. After the diaphragm contracts, the top portion of the windpipe known as the glottis, immediately closes which creates the characteristic “hic” sound of hiccups.

A hiccup is a reflex you have no control over and can be hard to stop. That being said, the interesting fact about hiccups is that unlike other reflexes (I.E. sneezing, coughing, etc.), a hiccup does not appear to have a useful purpose.

What is the hiccups acid reflux connection? Most people have a case of the hiccups every once in a while, and in many of these instances, the spell of hiccups is brief, and there is no apparent reason why it was experienced. However, if hiccups are related to acid reflux, it is not uncommon for hiccups to be persistent and last for hours, To Read More Click Here

The TRUTH Behind Your Acid Reflux Disease

Get the FACTS on How to Limit and Stop Acid Reflux Disease from an Ex Acid Reflux Sufferer and Qualified Nutritionist.

Acid reflux disease, or GERD - gastro-esophageal reflux disease as it is known, is caused by the coincidence of two medical conditions. The first condition contributing to acid reflux disease is the backward flow of food and acid from the stomach to the esophagus. Nonetheless, the reflux does not always result in symptoms of GERD or changes in the organic tissues, and can happen in healthy individuals as well, when it is referred to as \”physiologic gastroesophageal reflux\”.

The second factor encouraging GERD is a malfunction of the LES, the lower esophageal sphincter. The LES is a circle of muscle of 3-4 cm, some two to three times thicker than the proximal esophagus and acting as a valve between the esophagus and the stomach. When acid reflux disease occurs, the LES fails to close correctly and stomach contents is pushed back into the esophagus. With symptoms of the disease after this process, this is then called gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
